Year 6 have really enjoyed sessions with local magistrates recently learning about the rules of law and how the police and the courts are there to help uphold these rules. They then took part in a mock trial and heard the case for and against a young person accused of cyber bullying. Not only did they learn a lot about the law but they also really stopped to think about their own online behaviour and how important it is to be kind online.
While some of the children enjoyed playing roles such as magistrate, defendant, witness, prosecution and usher, the others were court reporters or court artists, capturing the important details of the case to help them come to a final decision: GUILTY or NOT GUILTY
Look at Ellis’ great court sketch – a real court artist in the making perhaps!
