They say that absence makes the heart grow fonder! That has certainly been evident in Y4 since the children arrived back at school last week. Happy smiling faces, excitement and eagerness to learn have been the main ingredients of our first 7 days back at school. Week 1 ended with the children being asked to reflect on what had been the best thing about being back. It was a unanimous, “Being able to play with our friends again!” It has been lovely to watch old friendships being rekindled as well as children forming new friendships, too, in the newly mixed classes of B4 and SJ4.

As well as spending time getting used to the new routines of school and working on our well-being through our extra PSHE lessons, the children have also loved returning to some of their familiar favourites! PE and Music have certainly gone down a treat this week as you can see from the photos.

Our new book, Instructions by Neil Gaiman, has also been a hit and we have been impressed to see how eager pupils have been to use their imaginations and write down their own ideas for their own versions of the story. We can’t wait to see how their writing unfolds over the next week.

We have also introduced the classes to our new topic for this term: Anglo-Saxons and Vikings. We have created timelines and done some map work to see where they came from. Some children have been so keen they have even gone home and started to do their own research!

I am sure there will be some tired children at the end of this first full week (and staff) but it’s been great to finally be back together again and we can’t wait for everything else that’s in store this term!
