Attendance & Lateness
To support promoting high attendance, the school follows a strict policy of monitoring pupils attendance and lateness at specific points across the year.
When a child falls below 93% attendance, at any time throughout the year, parents are notified. This is via an initial letter, which includes a registration certificate (a document showing the days of absence/lateness and any reasons given). Further monitoring takes place as the year progress. Please click on the link below to see the flowchart of our school's monitoring process.
Attendance broken down
Illness is unavoidable at times and as such, we understand that children will require time off to rest and recouperate. If your child is not well enough to attend, please contact the school office on 01788 576074. Please leave a message if nobody is available to take your call.
If your child is showing signs of being unwell, but you feel is still fit enough to attend school, at least initially, please bring them in. We will actively monitor them throughout the day and communicate with you should their condition worsen.
If your child is required to attend an appointment (dentist, hospital, opticians etc), please inform the office prior to the event and provide an appointment card where possible.
Leave of Absence
If you require time out of school for exceptional circumstances (funerals, weddings of close family members etc), please download a leave of absence form or pick one up from the office. We will then assess each Leave of Absence request on their own merit and reply in due course, either authorising the leave or not.
If you are requesting time out for other reasons (e.g. a holiday, day trip etc) please note that our school does not authorise any holiday.
Please read our Attendance policy for further information.
Celebrating Attendance
At Abbots Farm Junior School, we actively promote high attendance, through attendance awards, class tokens and a celebration of those who meet our school target.
Our whole school attendance for the year 2018-19 was 97.1%. Well done everyone

(Authorised Absence: 2.3%/ Unauthorised 0.6%)

We continue to monitor attendance monthly and letters are sent home where appropriate.  We are still publishing attendance figures for classes each month in the newsletter to try to continue to raise attendance levels.

Please ensure that your child arrives before 8:50am when the gate is then closed and they are recorded in our late log.
As you are aware, the school is running ‘Start of the Day Activities’ which run from 8:40 – 8:50am to get the children ready for learning. If your child is persistently late they will be regularly missing this part of their school learning.
Thank you for your support in this matter.
